Human history is full of story and story-telling. The best actors, scripts and films aren’t those that force something on their audience, rather invite people in to identify with what’s been created; suggestion is stronger than preaching and discovery more valuable than dictation.
The beauty of this art form is found not only in the finished product, but also in the process: the late nights, surprisingly industrious solutions, contemplative dissecting of dialogue, toilsome tweaking of lighting, and masterful mixing of sounds. It is in the honoring of those that lead on-set, and the appreciation of those that follow.
A Christian’s goal in filmmaking should be to create great art that is astonishing in both its process and its final product; to give a true, artistically beautiful glimpse of God’s character to a world that needs to know He meets beggars, the triumphant, outcasts and sinners right where we are.
